Trek pace check

Climb high, sleep low.

Autumn is high trekking season, and the big-mountain stories are everywhere again. The rule that keeps a trek safe is about where you sleep: above 3,000 m, no more than 500 m higher each night, and a night that does not climb every few nights. Paste your itinerary and see your ascent as a contour map - each ring is 500 m, so a night that crosses two rings has climbed too fast.
